Head's Welcome
It is a great privilege to welcome you to Sywell CE Primary School. I am incredibly proud to be Headteacher of such a warm, caring and ambitious school and of everything our children, staff and wider school community achieve together.
At Sywell, we want every child to flourish. We have high expectations for all our pupils and are committed to providing an education that enables every child to achieve their very best academically, while also supporting them to grow socially, emotionally and spiritually. We want our children to leave us as confident, compassionate and resilient young people: curious about the world around them, proud of what they can achieve and ready for the next stage of their journey.
As a Church of England school, our Christian vision is at the heart of who we are:
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves.” Romans 12:10
This vision, alongside our values of love, fellowship and respect, shapes the way we learn, work and live together. It reminds us that every member of our school community is valued and has something unique to contribute. We encourage our children to care for one another, to celebrate the achievements of others, to show kindness and respect, and to understand how they can make a positive difference in their community and the wider world.
Our love of God’s creation is also an important part of life at Sywell. We are incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful forest area within our school grounds, which is enjoyed and used by children across the school. Learning beyond the classroom is an important part of our curriculum, giving our children opportunities to explore, investigate and discover, while developing their curiosity and appreciation of the natural world. We want our children not only to enjoy God’s creation, but also to understand their responsibility to care for it.
Being a small village school gives Sywell a wonderful sense of community and belonging. Our children tell us that they feel happy and safe here, and the strong relationships between pupils, staff and families are something we value enormously. We work closely with our parents and wider community because we know that children thrive when school and home work together.
Alongside a strong academic curriculum, we believe childhood should be rich in experiences. Through trips, residentials, music, sport, outdoor learning and the many other opportunities we provide, we want our children to discover their interests and talents, develop confidence and create memories that will stay with them long after they leave us.
As part of the Peterborough Diocese Education Trust, we are also part of a wider family of Church schools, while retaining the individual character and close community that make Sywell so special.
We are immensely proud of our school and all that it has achieved, and we are equally excited about its future. We will continue to build on these strong foundations, always striving to provide the very best education, care and opportunities for our children, while preserving the warmth, values and sense of community that make Sywell such a special place.
I hope our website gives you a flavour of what makes Sywell such a wonderful place to learn and grow, but nothing compares with seeing our school in action. We warmly welcome prospective families to visit us, meet our children and staff and experience our school community for themselves.
